Graduation Announcement Etiquette and Design
For proper etiquette information, please view our Graduation Announcement Etiquette page.
Why did I receive two envelopes for each announcement?
Two (2) envelopes (inner and outer) are used to formally mail graduation announcements. For more etiquette information, please view our Graduation Announcement Etiquette page.
Why does one envelope have gum on the flap?
The envelope with no gum is your inner envelope. Put the announcement into this envelope and seal it with a year date seal (if purchased). Then put inner envelope into the larger, outer envelope that has a gummed flap. The outer envelope is your mailing envelope. For more etiquette information, please view our Graduation Announcement Etiquette page.
How do I use the year date seals?
The year date seals are traditionally used to seal the inner envelopes.
Who designed my Graduation Announcement?
The design of your official graduation announcement is decided upon by the college administration, bookstore, or a student committee. Your Herff Jones sales representative assists in the process but final approval is made by the University / College. All students will receive the official graduation announcement design and text. Student personal information will vary.
Why do the edges of my announcements appear torn?
Some announcements are designed with a Deckled Edge that gives the appearance of being torn. With the Deckled Edge design, each announcement has an unfinished looking edge on one side. There is nothing wrong with the announcement; it has been produced the way it was designed.
