Academic Hoods:
The academic hoods is a symbol of your personal and academic achievement-the
means by which your degree and the college awarding the degree are easily
recognized. The size and shape emphasize the degree level-the Doctor being
the largest, followed by the Master and the Bachelor. The colors in the
satin lining are those approved by the college or university... and the
color of the velvet border will indicate the degree earned (i.e. dark blue
for Philosophy, light blue for Education, etc. ). To find out the appropriate
degree color for your area of study, see our academic degree color listing
or visit your local bookstore or registrar. Some schools choose to designate
their own color scheme for degrees or choose colors based upon degree level
(i.e. white for bachelors, red for masters, etc.).
Doctoral Tams:
Increasing in popularity, the tams shown are available in a luxuriously
soft, black velvet. Other colors are also available. Priced to include
a rayon tassel, however, many prefer a gold silk or a metallic gold tassel
as pictured above. Doctoral Tams are available in 4 or 8 sided styles.
Mortarboard Cap:
Light in weight, this distinctive cap has a soft folding crown. Available
in exact sizes, the crown is quilted for added comfort. The mortarboard
is warp proof with reinforced edges for extra strength. A stiff-crown model
is also available.
